Given the continuing state of the economy, times remain tough for the majority of building trade professionals, with work loads down in comparison to last year. In terms of the types of jobs, the vast majority are unsurprisingly carrying out residential repair, maintenance and improvement (RMI) projects.
Happily most of those who were surveyed were not experiencing a change in receiving payment from customers, although a worrying 30% were suffering from longer delays.
Findings have shown that the travelling habits of building trade professionals find themselves journeying quite a distance to get to site, with almost a quarter travelling further for a job at present. 69% of building trade professionals currently travel more than 10miles with nearly half going more than 21miles. Covering an increasingly wide area adds to the reasons why the vast majority of building trade professionals buy their materials from a number of different merchants.
When building trade professionals were asked at large what areas could their merchant improve upon, the most popular answers were ‘reduced prices’ and ‘better promotions.’ Other popular responses included ‘improved delivery service’ and ‘more stock in branch.’
