Chorley To Get Gold Post Box
Olympic cycling champion Bradley Wiggins honoured with gold post box in hometown Chorley
As well as producing stamps for all Team GB's gold medal winners, the Royal Mail is also honouring the Olympic champions with the ultimate accolade, a golden post box in their hometown.
For every gold medal won by Team GB, a post box will be painted gold in the home town of the athlete the very next day.
The latest gold post box to appear was on Thursday in Chorley, Lancashire, home to cyclist and time-trial champion Bradley Wiggins. The cyclist's win is also being marked by a limited edition postage stamp, that shows the rider in his Team GB kit.
So far three of the golden post boxes have appeared around the country, although that number is set to rise significantly this morning after the success of trap shooter Peter Wilson, canoeists Etienne Stott and Tim Baillie and the team of three track cycling team sprinters lead by Sir Chris Hoy on Thursday day six of London 2012.
"I think the people of Chorley will be absolutely ecstatic about having a gold post box and a stamp of Bradley Wiggins. And this morning, you should hear the number of people beeping their horns as they've gone past us has just been absolutely amazing. And I'm glad Royal Mail's been able to play a part in his victory." Royal Mail spokesman Michael Hogg said.
Greengates Builders Merchants Accrington, Lancashire wishes to congratulate all the current winners of Olympic medals.
