Greengates Builders Merchants

Energy efficiency measures to add to new-build costs

Buyers of new-build homes will have to pay around £7,000 more when government energy efficiency regulations, the Code for Sustainable Homes, come into force next year, according to the Home Builders Federation.

The HBF says that the plan to bring all new homes up to the Government's standards by April 2010 will add about £7,000 to a typical new-build, currently costing an average £157,934 according to Nationwide.

The costs will rise as further measures are made mandatory. By 2016, the HBF estimates that around £30,000 will have been added to the cost of a new home.
