Former Accrington Stanley Director Passes Away
Geoff Heap aged 84, passed away on Sunday. A former Accrington Stanley FC director has been described as a friendly and familiar face around the club.
Geoff Heap had been involved with Accrington Stanley for 60 years going back to the 1950’s and 60’s which was when the club folded and left the football league.
Geoff had been involved with Accrington Stanley for most of his adult life. Geoff’s father was also involved in the 1960’s and the pair could be seen together at home and away games.
Supporters have grown up with Geoff manning his ‘late gate’ at the stadium which is a role he performed up until he turned 80 four years ago.
Geoff has always been a familiar face with the players and travelled up and down the country on a regular basis for away games on the team coaches.
Geoff could also be seen around the Stanley ground doing odd jobs of maintenance such as fixing seats in the stands and keeping the changing rooms up to scratch.
Geoff has been described as a massive figure around the club and a true gentleman and a Stanley man through and through.
“Greengates Builders Merchants Accrington, Lancashire would like to pass on their condolences to Geoff’s family at this sad time, he was a good friend to lots of people at Stanley and will be missed by all”.
