Greengates Builders Merchants Accrington, lancashire Wishes Sonic Well In Europe
Super Mario Bros and the star of the Sega Sonic the Hedgehog games are all set to take Europe by storm. “Super Mario Bros and Sonic the Hedgehog have universal appeal and have stood the test of time, with children across the world playing the games and recognising the characters.”
Joint managing director Danny Schweiger said: “We have been carefully planning our launch in Europe for some time and these two brands are the perfect licenses to take us into this market.
Licensed textiles firm Character World has announced an assault on Europe after signing deals to make products featuring two of the world's most famous computer game characters.
Now it has agreed deals to produce bedroom textiles like duvet sets, curtains, cushions and fleece blankets featuring the Nintendo computer game characters Super Mario Bros and the star of the Sega Sonic the Hedgehog games.
And for the first time in its history Character World has been awarded the rights to supply products across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
The products, which are designed in house by Character World, are expected to go on sale in June of this year.
Mr Schweiger said the company hopes to capitalise on the London 2012 Olympics as a Mario Bros v Sonic game has been developed to be official video game of the games.
“We have spent the past four years researching the marketplace prior to taking on the multi-territory deals, meaning we are well placed for future growth in this area.
As a result of the deal, the company has recruited a European sales team to manage the accounts, led by European sales manager Irene Vedder, who joins from Cornish children's furniture business Worlds Apart.
The team will be charged with signing up retailers and distributors for the new territories.
Character World, which is based at Cheadle Hulme, near Stockport, supplies UK retailers including Argos, Littlewoods, Express Gifts, JD Williams and Amazon.
Its licences include Disney, Peppa Pig and Justin Bieber.
Character World, which has around 50 staff, will also expand its range of products featuring pop group One Direction in the spring.
“We hope the move into Europe goes well for this business” says Greengates Builders Merchants Accrington, Lancashire.
