Traders in Accrington town centre recently stepped back in time as part of a Victorian themed weekend (11/12/09 - 13/12/09). The town centre became a thriving Victorian town complete with costumes, a choir and more to mark the 150th Anniversary of the town hall.
Performers including the Hyndburn Singers, Red Rose Band and the Accrington Pipe Band made an appearance at the event. There was also an accordion player entertaining shoppers in the market on Saturday. There was a Victorian grotto created by pupils from Rhyddings School. A pot pourri-making workshop was run by Haslingden and Helmshore museum in the Market Hall on Saturday and Sunday.
The event ran from Friday 11th December to Sunday 13th December. Participating traders were given the chance to win £250.00 for the best Victorian themed shop.
Hyndburn mayor Paul Barton said he hoped the event would boost trading the current economic climate. He added: “It’s a great event for Accrington and we hope the shoppers got into the spirit along with the traders. Similar events have been held recently in Whalley and Clitheroe and they have been a success so we hope this event will work for us to in Accrington.”
This Victorian weekend here in Accrington should have hopefully brought some trade to the town as well as some festive cheer to those that were there.
Here at Greengates Builders Merchants Accrington, Lancashire we hope this Victorian themed weekend was a success for all involved and we hope it was enjoyed by all who participated and attended.
