Health Problems We Should Not Ignore
Health problems Men Should Not Ignore!
Most men under a certain age don't worry too much about their health. As long as we can still beat our full-back for pace, and still force down a full English the morning after the night before, most of us don't take the occasional ache or pain too seriously.
And if that occasional ache or pain quickly goes away, we're probably right not to worry. The key thing to remember about health warning signs is that the stuff that does the real harm doesn't go away or, if it does, it usually returns. Any recurring or stubborn health problem is worth a trip to the GP, if only for peace of mind.
After that, there are some health red flags men should never ignore. They probably don't indicate anything sinister, especially if you're otherwise hale and hearty, but isn't it best to be on the safe side? Here are a couple of health warning signs you should definitely be aware of.
Most chest pains - particularly in young men - are not your worst nightmare. They can be caused by shingles, muscle sprains, panic or acid reflux.
But chest pain is also a symptom of coronary heart disease (CHD) and does need to be checked out.
CHD can feel similar to the pain of indigestion, or it can radiate out from (usually) the centre of the chest to the arms, neck, jaw, back or stomach. Very few men in their 20s and 30s suffer heart attacks, but dealing with early symptoms of CHD early could be a life saver later on.
Bleeding gums are probably a sign of gum disease - easily fixed if not too advanced by regular brushing and flossing.
Blood when you go to the toilet should never be ignored. Rectal bleeding in young men is very likely to be the result of something as innocuous as haemorrhoids (piles), but in rare cases it can be a symptom of colon polyps or even colon cancer. An immediate visit to your GP can put your mind at rest.
If you're on a diet and taking more exercise, you'll know why you've shed a few pounds. But if you can't explain the weight loss, get it checked out.
