‘High Bills? Your Home Is Too Draughty,’ Says Boss Of Energy Firm Npower
FURY was sparked last night after an energy boss claimed bills are too high because homes “waste” energy.
Paul Massara, chief executive of German-owned npower, claimed British houses are “old and draughty” while the unit price of gas and electricity in the UK is among the lowest in Europe.
His comments came as energy chiefs were slammed by MPs for their “utter complacency” over the Christmas storms which left 150,000 homes without power.
In the npower report “Energy Explained”, Mr Massara said: “If we can increase the efficiency of the UK’s old and draughty housing, we can ensure that annual energy bills are some of the lowest too.
But campaigners said bill rises of 140 per cent over the past nine years are not consistent with Mr Massara’s claims.
He was accused of “sidestepping” the real issue of energy giants slapping customers with massive annual price hikes, with an average dual fuel bill now £1,315 a year, according to Ofgem.
So if your home is draughty why not come along to Greengates Builders Merchants Accrington and find out what you can do to stop draughts and maybe bring the cost of your fuel bills down.
