A plan has been developed in order to crack down on cowboy builders across the Hyndburn area. This newly developed plan will go before councillors this week.
Hyndburn Borough Council aims to stamp out the building of dangerous structures, by introducing a list of approved companies, as well as using stricter enforcements to recover the cost of emergency building repairs. Other aspects of the plans include more structured inspections of buildings and the recognition of high quality building works with the introduction of an excellence scheme.
At this present moment, it is not necessary for a builder to possess any building qualifications or experience. During the past year the council’s building service has dealt with an increasing number of ‘very poor’ builders who do not build in accordance with set plans. A report to councillors claims ‘alarming incidents’ are causing dangerous structures to be built and costing householders large amounts of money in putting them right.
The Building Excellence Awards Scheme would also allow the council to develop a list of companies which offer a high quality service, available to people seeking to undertake building work on their property.
Here at Greengates Builders Merchants Accrington, Lancashire we feel that something needs to be done to stop these cowboy builders which are costing people more money then necessary. We therefore support the plan which is going to be put forward to councillors this week which will aim to put an end to cowboy builders in the Hyndburn area, and who knows if this plan is successful then maybe we will see other such plans come in to action across other parts of the country.
