Get the lowdown on natural stone panelling right here with our FAQs.
Where is stone panelling used?
The primary use for natural stone panels is to clad the exterior of a property but the Tier system works equally well for many other applications, from creating paths and patios to indoor design elements like fireplaces and in bathrooms.
Which surfaces can the panels be fixed to?
Designed to be versatile, agile and flexible, Tier Natural Stone Panels can be attached to many surfaces both indoors and out. Masonry such as concrete, block and brick can have stone panels directly affixed to them while steel- and timber-frame buildings require that an intermediate layer of approved building board be installed.
How difficult is installation?
This is the really good news: it's as easy as 1-2-3! No expert knowledge or special tools are required and the entire installation process can be broken down into just three simple steps: these steps can be found right here on the Greengate's Builders Merchant website.
What fixings and fastenings do I need?
For structures up to 3m in height, use Tier Flexible Masonry Adhesive (which can be found in the 'Tier Care & Maintenance' section of our website). Above this height, metal fixings are required and these should be formed from stainless steel to offer maximum corrosion resistance.
How robust are the panels?
Tier Stone Panels are designed to be tough so they can stand up to the elements. After installation, the panels should be treated with specially-formulated Tier Sealer. The product delivers extra protection to each unique stone panel while enhancing their beautiful natural tones.
